Rolland Sonny Campbell, 72, of Syracuse, died Sunday, July 6, 2008 at home after a courageous battle with cancer. He met the Lord with the love of his family beside him just as they were throughout his illness. A lifetime resident of the Syracuse area, he was born on Sunday, September 8, 1935 and was the eldest child of the late Benjamin and Mae Campbell. Sonny was a member of the last graduating class of Split Rock High School. He served with the old 108th Aircraft Warning Flight for 10 years and was a military air policeman. Sonny was a 50-year member of the Plumbers Steamfitters Local 207 and was a master plumber for many years. A communicant of St. Cecilia's Church in Solvay, he was also a Eucharistic minister and server. He was predeceased by his brothers, Philip, Martin and William Campbell. Surviving are his wife of 52 years, the former Jane Murphy; six children, Mary Jane (John) Holland of Exton, Pennsylvania, MSgt. (ret.) Christopher (Kay) of Brighton, Colorado, Michael of Camillus, Loretta (Michael) Wojak of Onondaga Hill, Barbara (Jeffrey) Rantz of Pottstown, Pennsylvania and Timothy (Melissa) of Camillus; 11 grandchildren, Kathleen, Eric and Sean Holland, SuRin and Benjamin Campbell, Kaitlin and Matthew Wojak, Matthew and Diana Rantz, and Patrick and Brandon Campbell; great-grandson, Michael Reza; sisters and brother-in-law, June and Clifford Isgar of Marcellus, Jean Hall of Minetto and Judith Campbell of Oswego. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 10, 2008 in St. Cecilia's Church where a funeral Mass will be celebrated. Friends may call Wednesday, July 9, 2008 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt.
