Rocco L. Capraro

January 25, 1926 — September 18, 2015

Rocco L. Capraro, 89, of Camillus, passed away Friday, September 18, 2015 at McHarrie Life in Baldwinsville.  Born and raised in Utica, he graduated from  Proctor High School  in 1943, Utica College in 1953, and moved to Camillus in 1963.  He was an Army veteran of World War II. Rocco retired in 1985 after 38 years with NY Telephone Services.  He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church.  He enjoyed golf and was a member of Tuscarora and Sunset Ridge.  Rocco served on the school board of West Genesee and BOCES and was a member of the Lion's Club.  He loved spending time with his family and friends. Surviving are his wife of 64 years, the former Veronica Gawron; daughter, Cathy Hovater of Syracuse; sons, David (Gloria) of Camillus and Chip (Jan Regan) of Geneva; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. There will be no calling hours. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, September 22 at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church.  Rocco will be laid to rest in Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Assn., 6390 Fly Rd., East Syracuse, NY 13057 or to American Heart Assn., P.O. Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241.
