Robert J. Venner Jr., 82, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully on Thursday at Bishop Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and selfless devotion. A lifetime resident of the Syracuse area, he was a man of deep faith, unwavering kindness, and boundless enthusiasm for life’s simple joys.
Bob was a proud graduate of St. Vincent de Paul High School and later earned a Master’s Degree in Education from Le Moyne College. He dedicated 40 years of his life to shaping young minds as a beloved teacher in the West Genesee Central School District, retiring in 2004. Beyond the classroom, Bob coached modified soccer and his commitment to education extended to St. Joseph’s Church, where he taught Religious Education and nurtured the spiritual growth of countless children. As a member of the NYS Teachers Association, his passion for learning and teaching inspired his colleagues and students alike.
An avid skier and enthusiastic traveler, Bob embraced life’s adventures with open arms. Whether carving down snowy slopes or exploring new destinations, his zest for life was infectious. Bob had a unique knack for surprising his wife, Carol, with new cars, often purchased during her trips out of town, a charming quirk that never failed to bring laughter to his family. His love for food, particularly sweets, was only rivaled by his deep affection for his canine companions, who were cherished members of the Venner household.
Above all, Bob’s heart belonged to his family. He found immense joy in the company of his grandchildren, who were the light of his life. A man of boundless generosity, Bob was always ready to lend a helping hand or share a warm smile. His kind and loving soul touched everyone he met, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those who were fortunate to know him.
Robert was predeceased by his wife, Carol, in 2024; sister, Mary Ellen Lawless in 2024; and parents, Robert Sr. and Helen Venner.
Surviving are his daughter, Sara (Aaron) Marlow of Fabius; granddaughters, Allison and Emma Marlow; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
