Robert Steves, 85, of Camillus, passed away Monday, September 2, 2024, at Loretto Health and Rehabilitation. A lifelong resident of the Syracuse area, he graduated from Solvay High School in 1957 before continuing his education at Syracuse University, where he earned a Master’s degree in Social Work. Robert also pursued theological studies at St. Bernard’s School of Theology and Ministry. Throughout his career spanning 47 years as a social worker, he devoted two decades to Loretto and later joined Menorah Park of CNY, where he worked diligently until his retirement in 2012, impacting numerous lives along the way. Outside of his professional life, he dedicated countless hours to volunteering and serving in various roles at Holy Family Church.
Robert was predeceased by his wife of 44 years, Margaret; daughter, Maura Kelly Steves-McLaughlin; parents, W. Reginald and Rose; twin brother, Thomas; brother, Michael; and brother-in-law, Mitchell Edwards.
Surviving are his son, Ian (Amy) of Decatur, GA; son-in-law, Erin (Traci) McLaughlin of Syracuse; four grandchildren; brother, William (Carol) of Syracuse; sisters, Mary Edwards of Syracuse and Virginia (Donald) Chalanick of Auburn; sister-in-law, Theresa Steves of Syracuse; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
To celebrate Robert’s life, relatives and friends are invited to gather on Friday, September 13, 2024, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at 9 a.m. in Holy Family Church.
Robert will be laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Holy Family Church, 127 Chapel Dr., Syracuse, NY 13219.
