Robert "Bob" P. Ellis, 78, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully Sunday, February 7, 2016 at home surrounded by his family. A lifetime resident of Syracuse, he also lived in Seminole, FL. Bob attended St. Patrick's High School and graduated from Solvay High School. He excelled in high school sports, especially baseball and basketball. Having never played the game of hockey, he worked his way to the professional level of refereeing in the American Hockey League. Bob served for 35 years with Niagara Mohawk primarily in engineering and concluded his career in management. He served as financial secretary for IBEW. He was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church, an avid golfer, hunter and SU fan. He loved spending time on Skaneateles Lake with family and friends but above all, his favorite pastime was attending his grandchildren's activities and sporting events. Surviving are his wife and best friend of 57 years, the former Margaret Comerford; son, Robert (Cathy) Ellis of Camillus; daughters, Bonnie (Ron) Scott of Baldwinsville, Patty (Tim) Barry of Camillus and Cara (John) Conklin of Marcellus; sister, Nornie (Dave) Walsh; brothers, Bill (Maryann) Ellis, Rick (Denise) Ellis and John Ellis, all of Syracuse; grandchildren, Bobby Ellis, Caitlin (Gaines) Fraizer, Brittany (Steve) Kobak, Brent (Jenn) Scott, Ryan (Catherine Foster) Scott, Nora, Liam and Emmett Barry, and Madison, Casey and Jack Conklin; great-granddaughter, Ellis Anne Kobak; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Relatives and friends may call Thursday, February 11 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, February 12 at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church, Syracuse. Burial will be private.
