Robert “Bob” J. Sims, 94, of Camillus and Bradenton, FL passed away Tuesday at Upstate University Hospital Community Campus. He was a 1943 graduate of Warners High School and Navy veteran of WWII. Bob earned his associate degree in engineering from SU and was employed with General Electric Co. for 37 years before retiring in 1980. An avid carpenter, he built his own home and his parent's home. Bob was a communicant of Holy Family Church, Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus and a Little League Baseball coach. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, gardening, attending musical plays and watching SU sports. Bob also enjoyed spending winters in Bradenton, FL and traveling to see his children and grandchildren.
Bob was predeceased by his wife, Anna Mae, in 2004; son, Robert, in 2010; brothers, Bernard and Paul; and son-in-law, Gary Black.
Surviving are his daughter, Diane Black of Castle Rock, CO; sons, James (Cindy) of Sennett and Terrance of Camillus; daughter-in-law, Mary Ellen Sims; sister, Carol Porter of Tennessee; brother, Richard of Minneapolis; sister-in-law, Charlotte (Pete) Luedke; grandchildren, Brent (Kelli) Sims, Josh Sims, Renee (Jerry Meis, MD) Sims, Erin (Glenn) Reed, Jennifer (Mark Pietrowski) Sims, Crystal Black, Katie Black, Jason Sims and Ryan (Meghan) Sims; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends may call Sunday, March 1 from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, March 2 at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church, 127 Chapel Dr., Syracuse. Robert will be laid to rest in Belle Isle Cemetery, Warners.
