Robert "Bob" F. Hawes, Jr., 58, of Marcellus passed away peacefully Friday, May 8, at SUNY Upstate Medical University after a five month courageous battle from an unexpected brain stem aneurysm. Born in Lake Charles, LA, he lived most of his life in the Syracuse area, most recently in Marcellus since 2003. Bob was a graduate of Corcoran High School, Onondaga Community College and SUNY Brockport where he earned his bachelor's degree. He was the Voluntary Service Manager at the Syracuse VA Medical Center for the past 15 years where he touched many people's lives and previously the Recreation Director at Elmcrest Children's Center for 15 years. He was an avid golfer and also enjoyed gardening, cooking, traveling, biking, photography, cross country skiing and belonged to the Corvair Club for many years. Bob was predeceased by his step father, Charles Watrous; and brother in law, John Bailey. Surviving are his wife of 25 years, the former Suzanne Fatcheric; daughter, Kira; son, Liam; mother, Marjorie Watrous, of Marcellus; mother in law, Rosemary Fatcheric of Bergen; sister, Deborah Bailey of Fayetteville; and nephews, Paul and Shawn Bailey of Fayetteville; and several other sisters and brothers in law, nieces, nephews and cousins. Relatives and friends may call Tuesday, May 12 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, 5600 W. Genesee St., Camillus, with a reception to follow at the church. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Bob's memory for the college fund of the Hawes children with checks payable to Suzanne Hawes, 29 Highland Dr., Marcellus, NY 13108 or to Sarah House, 100 Roberts Ave., Suite 10, Syracuse, NY 13207.
