After a long and brave fight with cancer, Bob Braunitzer, of Lakeland, returned to his Creator on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at Francis House. Born in Fresno, CA on March 14, 1952, he was a lifetime resident of the Syracuse area. He graduated from Corcoran High School and Le Moyne College. Bob and Sally were high school sweethearts and were married August 11, 1973. Those who have been blessed to witness the love between this couple have been forever changed. Bob retired from Skaneateles Central School District after 35 years, where he taught social studies and coached basketball and softball. Although his life was far too short, Bob left his mark on the lives of many. He beamed as he watched his students blossom and will continue to watch your accomplishments with pride from Heaven. He truly appreciated his life, especially when he was with family, friends, or on the golf course. He died in the arms of his family, leaving nothing left unsaid. Surviving are his devoted wife of 42 years, the former Sally Buczek; and their children, Ashley of Liverpool and Erik of Lakeland; parents, Robert and Marion "Dee" of Syracuse; sisters, Cheryl Giarrusso of Jamesville and Maria "Mimi" Braunitzer of Syracuse; brothers, David (Linda) of Sandy Creek and Mark of Oswego; and many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call Friday, May 30 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Services will be Saturday, May 31 at 8:15 a.m. at the funeral home and 9 a.m. in Holy Family Church where a funeral Mass will be celebrated. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Francis House, 108 Michaels Ave., Syracuse, NY 13208.
