Robert J. Dietz Sr., 86, of Camillus, passed away Thursday. A lifetime resident of the Syracuse area, he graduated from St. John the Evangelist School. Bob earned a bachelor’s degree from Le Moyne College and was a member of the Le Moyne College Athletic Hall of Fame. In his early years, Bob enjoyed playing softball and racquetball. He retired in 1995 from WTVH-5, where he worked in accounting management.
Despite his constant resistance to the game of golf, he embraced it in his later years and enjoyed playing with his wife and friends. He was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church.
Bob was predeceased by his sister, Lorraine Eldred.
Surviving are his wife of 64 years, the former Joan Fritzen; daughters, Cindy (Rick) McCormack of Camillus, Marcia (Michael) Naton of Syracuse, Theresa (Steve) Lopuchowycz of Geneseo and Lisa Bream of State College, PA; sons, Dr. RJ Dietz Jr. (Dr. Kristen Kratzert) of Camillus, and Tim (Christine) Dietz of Tully; 15 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; Sue Dietz; and faithful companion, Lani.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, January 27 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, 5600 West Genesee St., Camillus. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the family will refrain from greeting friends after the funeral Mass. Bob will be laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners.
