Robert Elwood Rice

Robert Elwood Rice, 84, of Redfield, passed away Monday, August 26, 2013 at McHarrie Pointe. Born and raised in Fulton, he lived in Syracuse before moving to Conway, SC and spent his summers in Redfield. He was a graduate of Fulton High School, SUNY Oswego and Syracuse University and an Army veteran of the Korean War. Bob retired in 1983 after 26 years with the West Genesee Central School District and previously three years with the Onondaga Nations School. He was a member of the NY State Teachers' Association. A former member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Syracuse he also attended First United Methodist Church in Conway, SC and belonged to the Hut Bible Class. He was an eagle scout with Boy Scouts of America and lifetime member of the Onondaga Hill Players. An avid hunter, he especially liked small game hunting. He was also an avid carpenter, and enjoyed water skiing and traveling. He rode his bicycle all over Conway. He enjoyed caring for children and loved spending time with his family. Bob was predeceased by his twin brothers, Raymon and Ralph Rice. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, the former Helen Bateman; daughters, Diana (David) Easley of Staunton, VA and Laurine (Thomas) Campbell of Camillus; sons, Robert (Donna) and Daniel, both of Marcellus; brother, Richard (Beverly) Rice of Fulton; grandchildren, Amy Campbell Borawick, Rebecca Easley, Adam Campbell, Daniel, Justin and Samuel Rice; three great-grandchildren; close family, Wendy Cultri, Lisa Bowen and Carrie Bowen and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call Thursday, August 29 from 11 a.m. to noon at the Immanuel United Methodist Church, Camillus. Services will follow at noon in the church. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Immanuel United Methodist Church, 303 Kasson Rd., Camillus, NY 13031.
