Robert "Bob" Evan Welles, 82, of Lakeland, Florida and formerly of Camillus, passed away Monday, August 6, 2007. Born in Syracuse on Tuesday, December 23, 1924, he was the son of Frank M. Welles and Ethel Jones Welles. Bob graduated from Valley High School and attended Syracuse University. He served in World War II with the Army Corp of Engineers, both in Europe and Asia. Bob worked as a sales representative for Beech-Nut Foods, Syracuse Merchandisers, McDermott and Upstate Food Brokers until retiring in 1990. He was a member and usher at Fairmount Community Church for nearly 40 years. Bob was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Dorothy Johnston Welles, who died on April 11, 2007. Surviving are his sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Darlene Welles of Lakeland, Florida, Ron and Cheryl Welles of Onondaga Hill and Bruce and Deborah Welles of Camillus; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Patrick Celi of Syracuse; five grandchildren; one great-grandson; cousin, Nancy Harvey Steorts of McLean, Virginia; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Leah and Lee Short, Dean Johnston, Helen Johnston and Dawn Johnston; along with several nieces and nephews. A service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 18, 2007 at Fairmount Community Church with burial to follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners, concluding with a remembrance reception for family and friends at the church.
