Robert C. “Bob” Dixon, 90, of Camillus, passed away Thursday at The Centers at St. Camillus. Born in Syracuse, he lived in Camillus since 1958 and was a graduate of St. Lucy's School. He was a sergeant with the Rainbow Division in the Army serving in WW II in Germany, where he fought at the Battle of the Bulge. Bob retired in 1972 after 20 years with the Syracuse Police Department. He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church. Bob was a member of the Syracuse Police Benevolent Association, Fraternal Order of Police, American Legion and the Camillus Elks# 2367. An avid Yankees fan and private pilot, he enjoyed bowling, extensive traveling and golfing, but above all cherished his spent time with family and friends. Robert was predeceased by his wife, the former Valerie Baniewicz, in 2012; and brothers, John and James. Surviving are his son, Robert (Cindy) of Marcellus; daughters, Sheila (Ray) Hahn of Marcellus and Janice (John) Czebiniak of Cicero; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Bob enjoyed spending the last three years of his life at Brookdale Summerfield in Syracuse. Relatives and friends may call Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, February 29 at 1:30 p.m. in St. Joseph's Church. Bob will be laid to rest in Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
