Rita R. Serbun, 91, of Syracuse, passed away Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at home, surrounded by her loving family. A lifetime resident of Syracuse, Rita graduated from North High School in 1946 and attended Empire College. She was employed with the Syracuse City School District for 10 years, retiring in 1988 and was formerly employed with Western Union, GE and Koerner Ford. Rita was a communicant of Our Lady of Peace Church and a member of its Altar & Rosary Society. She was a former communicant of St. Stephen's Church and belonged to its Altar & Rosary Society. She was also a member of the GE Electronettes and a former member and treasurer of the Sacred Heart Mother's Club.
Rita was predeceased by her husband Joseph; and grandson, Thomas McJilton.
Surviving are her sons, Joseph (Christine) of Syracuse and Jeffrey (Michelle) of Fayetteville, GA; daughters, Sabrina (Tom) McJilton of Liverpool and Sondra (Michael) Diamond of Salem, NH; sisters, Lucille Giambattista of Long Island, Antoinette Romano of Liverpool and Irene DiFlorio of Brewerton; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and one on the way.
Relatives and friends may call Sunday, September 8 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, September 9 at 9:30 a.m. in St. Marianne Cope Parish: Our Lady of Peace Church, 203 Halcomb St., Syracuse. Rita will be laid to rest in Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
