Rita (Gleason) Szpak, 89, of Fairmount, passed away Thursday, June 6, 2019 at home, surrounded by her loving family. A lifetime resident of the Syracuse area, she was a graduate of Most Holy Rosary and employed with Top O' The Hill Restaurant for over 15 years. Rita was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church and participated in the Adoration for over 30 years. She loved spending time with her family and animals.
Rita was predeceased by her husband, Andrew, in 2018.
Surviving are her daughters, Christine Zimmerman and Linda Bianchi, both of Syracuse; sons, Andy Jr. of Syracuse and Tom (Lynnette) of Marcellus; brother, John Gleason of Fairmount; grandchildren, Jaclyn (William) DeRito of Baldwinsville, Daniel (Carolyn) Zimmerman of Fulton, James Zimmerman (Annmarie Reed) of Syracuse, Amanda Szpak of Syracuse, Michele (Dave) Winegrad of Boynton Beach, FL, Kimberly (Dan) Parker of Marcellus and Thomas Szpak of Corning; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Zachary, Evan, Carter, Justin, Dominic, Trevor, Preston, Norah and Hudson; and several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank Ann Gleason for her loving care and compassion given to Rita.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated Monday, July 1 at 6 p.m. in St. Joseph's Church, 5600 West Genesee St., Camillus. Rita will be laid to rest in Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
