Richard W. Schill Sr., 82, of Fairmount, passed away Saturday, May 10, 2014 at Upstate University Hospital at Community General. Born in Syracuse, he was a lifetime resident of the Syracuse area. A Navy veteran, he served on the USS Gwin. He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 30 years, retiring in 1986 as a supervisor. Richard was an avid sports fan, enjoyed traveling and spending time at the Turning Stone Casino with his wife. His biggest joy was his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Richard was predeceased by his great-granddaughter Lucia. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, the former Virginia Shallenberger; son, Richard Schill Jr. of Liverpool; daughters, Debbie Michalak and Cindy (Mark) Polge, both of Fairmount; grandchildren, Kimberly (Albert) Julian, Rick (Brandi) and Jon Schill and Jessica Polge; great-grandchildren, Giovanni and Gemma Julian, and Shauna Schill; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Richard's primary care giver, Jessica Judge, for her loving care and compassion. Relatives and friends may call Tuesday, May 13 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 14 at the Buranich Funeral Home. Richard will be laid to rest in the Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
