Richard Nick Shewchuk

Richard Nick Shewchuk, 78, of Camillus, passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at Syracuse Home, surrounded by his loving family. A lifetime resident of the Syracuse area, he was a 1957 graduate of Vocational High School. A Navy veteran, Richard served with the Mediterranean Fleet aboard the USS Plymouth Rock LSD-29, rank IC2. He was employed with Bristol Myers for 31 years before retiring in 1994 and previously worked for Solvay Process. A communicant of St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, he was a member of the Ukrainian Men's Club. Richard enjoyed Thursday coffee at McDonald's and Bristol Buddies Breakfasts. Above all, he loved spending time around the house and being with his friends and family.

Richard was predeceased by his brother, Edward, in 2014.

Surviving are his wife of 56 years, the former Patricia Trepa; daughters, Susan (Joseph) Pinkowski of Marcellus, Sharon (Thomas) Catalino of Baldwinsville, Sandra (William) Wallak of Camillus and Sheila (Lawrence) O'Donnell of Methuen, MA; grandchildren, Nicole (Daniel) Scarano of Bayside, Brittney Pinkowski of Corvallis, OR, Nicholas, Allie and Lucy Catalino of Baldwinsville, Justin and Mia Wallak of Camillus and Colin and Ryan O'Donnell of Methuen, MA; great-grandson, Daniel Joseph Scarano of Bayside; sister, Jane (Richard) Troch of Camillus; sister-in-law, Carol (Kosakowski) Shewchuk of Camillus; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and many friends and neighbors.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Syracuse Home for the wonderful care and support given to them during their most difficult time. A special thank you to nephew, Jay, who was there for them the entire time.

Relatives and friends may call Sunday, April 15 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Panakhyda service will be at 3:30 p.m.

Services will be Monday, April 16 at 9:15 a.m. at the funeral home and 10 a.m. in St. John The Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, where a Divine Liturgy for the Deceased will be held. Richard will be laid to rest in St. John The Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Syracuse.
