Richard James Howe, 76, of Eastwood, New York, died Friday, January 6, 2006 at St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center in Syracuse, New York. Born in Detroit, Michigan on Sunday, May 19, 1929, he was the son of William Henry Howe and Jennie Blacklock. Richard lived in the Syracuse area most of his life. A U.S. Navy veteran for 20 years, he served in the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War, retiring in 1967. Richard was also a printer for Bohanon-Corcoran Printers and was later employed by Koerner Ford, both in Syracuse. Richard was a classic league bowler and one of the founders of the East-Syracuse-Minoa Pop Warner Football Association. He also enjoyed flower gardening, particularly his roses. His wife, the former Teresa Florczyk, died in 2002. Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Rev. William and Beverly Howe of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Brian (Elizabeth) Howe of Mechanicville, New York, David and Amber Jean Howe, both of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; brother, William Howe; sister, Janet Lynch; companion, Ruth Griffiths of Central Square, New York and her daughter, Diane Stevens of Syracuse, New York. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 10, 2006 at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus, with Rev. William H. Howe and Rev. Gary C. Welling officiating. Friends may call Monday, January 9, 2006 from 3 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Syracuse, New York.
