Richard Goff Thomson, 91, of Camillus, passed away Sunday at home. A lifetime resident of Syracuse, he was a graduate of Solvay High School and earned his B.S. in Industrial Relations from Le Moyne College. He received certifications in Electrical Schematics from Princeton and in Blueprint Development from RPI. He spent his career as a Manufacturer’s Representative and retired in 1998 as President and CEO of McNeil Corp. Richard served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was a communicant and Eucharistic Minister at both St. Joseph’s Church in Camillus, NY and St. John XXIII in Fort Myers, FL. Richard was a member of Bellevue Country Club in Syracuse, NY and Cross Creek Country Club in Fort Myers, FL. Richard was an avid golfer and fisherman and enjoyed skiing, poker, bridge, and vintage cars. His secret to longevity was enjoying scotch and a good cigar, as well as spending time with his loving wife, Regina.
Richard was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, the former Regina Stachnik; parents, William and Lauretta Thomson; granddaughter, Sarah Greenwood; and brothers, William and Robert.
Surviving are his son, Richard M. of Camillus; daughters, Mary Beth Almeida of Pulaski, Karen Thomson of Camillus and Patricia (Angelo Taglioni) of Solvay; grandchildren, John, Nick, Sean, Alex, Aubrey and Brooke; great-grandchildren, Christiano, Jesse, Grayson, Brady and Sadie; brothers, Gary (Agnes) of Brewerton and Lynn (Joan) of Camillus; sisters, Sharon Thomson of Clay and Beverly Orr of Chapel Hill, NC; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Relatives and friends may call Friday, April 29 from 10 to 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, 5600 W. Genesee St., Camillus. A funeral Mass will follow at 11:30 a.m.
Richard will be laid to rest at St. Mary’s Cemetery in DeWitt.
