Richard D. Fitzgerald

Richard Daniel Fitzgerald, 89, of Camillus, passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at Iroquois Nursing Home. Born in Utica on Tuesday, August 12, 1919, he was the son of Thomas and Jeanne Burns Fitzgerald. He lived in Whitesboro before moving to Camillus in 1987. Richard was a graduate of Utica Catholic Academy and Army veteran of World War II. In 1982, he retired from Chicago Pneumatic Corp. in Utica after 33 years. Richard was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church. He was also a member of the Holy Family Seniors, former vice president of the Camillus Seniors and member of the American Legion in Camillus. An avid Yankees fan, Richard enjoyed bingo, reading and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was predeceased by four brothers and seven sisters. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, the former Margaret Brooks; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Kathleen Fitzgerald of Camillus; grandchildren, Michael Fitzgerald of Vestal and Christine Fitzgerald of Washington, DC; and many nieces and nephews. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus and at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church where a funeral Mass will be celebrated. Relatives and friends may call Monday, March 9, 2009 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Richard will be laid to rest in Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Syracuse.
