Rena Calcagno

January 23, 1924 — February 2, 2015

Rena Calcagno, 91, of Camillus, passed away Monday, February 2, 2015 at The Centers at St. Camillus.  Born in the Bronx, she was a graduate of Burroughs Business School in Manhattan and lived in the Bronx and Westchester before moving to Camillus in 1998. Rena retired in 1985 after 24 years with Reader's Digest in Pleasantville.  She was a former communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Croton Falls.  Rena surrounded herself with photos of her beloved family.  Her home was a gathering place for family and friends, who were treated to delicious Italian meals.  An avid reader, she also enjoyed collecting dolls, cookbooks and family memorabilia. Rena was predeceased by her husband, Vincent, in 2003.   Surviving are her son, John (Jessica) of Jamison, PA; daughters, Cleta (Robert) Yancy and Rena (David) Brower, both of Camillus; brother, Louis (Bella) Blancato of Maryland; eight grandchildren; seven great-granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call Friday, February 6 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, February 7 at 9 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church.  Rena will be laid to rest in Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to Maxwell Memorial Library, 14 Genesee St., Camillus, NY 13031.
