Reinaldah "Nell" Marian (Smith) Hartmann

Reinaldah “Nell” Marian (Smith) Hartmann, 97, of Syracuse, passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at home. Nell was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a tireless volunteer at Community Hospital, Meals on Wheels and St. Michael's Lutheran Church. Nell enjoyed reading, traveling, cooking and all things blue. A dedicated correspondent to many, she loved connecting with others and spending time with family and friends.

Nell was predeceased by her lifelong friend and loving spouse of 66 years, Frederick Luff Hartmann Sr., in 2007; parents, John Edward and Catherine Wickert Smith; sister, Connie Snyder; and brothers, John and Malcolm.

Surviving are her children, Frederick (Sally) of Hinsdale, IL, Judith (William) Conine of Delmar and Terry (Eileen) of Pittsford; brother, Duane Smith of Kirkville; grandchildren, Beth (Adam) Steele, David (Magdalene Crowley) Hartmann, Séamus (Stephanie Shepardson) Hartmann, Mairéad (Seun Oyesiku) Hartmann, Liam Hartmann and Zachary (Layke Martin) Conine; and cherished great-grandchildren, Daniel, Sophie, Victoria, Iggy, Ruby, Theodore and Rutherford.

Relatives and friends may call Friday, May 18 from noon to 1:30 p.m. at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church, Camillus.

Services will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the church. Private burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Syracuse.
