Raymond J. Vollmer, 82, of Camillus, died Saturday, May 31, 2008 at home surrounded by his family. He was born in Syracuse on Friday, June 26, 1925, the son of Otto R. Vollmer and Mary O. Santamore Vollmer. A graduate of St. Anthony's School in Syracuse, he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service on Teall Ave., retiring in 1980 after 37 years. He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II. He was a communicant of Holy Family Church. An avid bowler and golfer, Raymond was a member of Westvale Golf Club and active volunteer for many of their tournaments. He enjoyed spending winters in Florida with his wife and friends, SU sports, spending time with his whole family and dancing with his wife to the sounds of Glenn Miller. Raymond is predeceased by his son, Raymond Randy Wood. Surviving are his wife of 54 years, the former Mary Regan; daughters, Diane Kampf of Camillus and Donna Vollmer-Mercer (John) of Fulton; sons, Daniel (Anna) Vollmer of Youngstown, NY and Douglas (Christine) Vollmer of Central Square; sister, Arlene (Robert) Hyland of Syracuse; brother, Paul (Rita) Vollmer of Syracuse; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 5, 2008 in Holy Family Church where a funeral Mass will be celebrated. Friends may call Wednesday, June 4, 2008 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Burial will be private.
