Phyllis T. Placanio, 83, of Syracuse, passed away Monday, May 25, 2015 in Tampa, FL, surrounded by her family. Born in Rochester, she has maintained residence in Onondaga County since her marriage in 1956. In later years, she split her time between Syracuse and Tampa. Phyllis was a real estate broker and owner of Nicholas Real Estate in Syracuse. She held numerous real estate sales and brokerage certifications and designations. After retirement, she began part-time employment with BSB Bank in Syracuse. Her greatest joy was to spend time with her family and spoil her grandchildren in Rochester and Tampa. Phyllis was fiercely independent and determined and despite multiple health and physical challenges, she continued to maintain personal residences in New York and Florida. Phyllis was predeceased by her husband, Nicholas, in 1986. Surviving are her daughter, Carol Patten of Rochester; son, Paul (Constance Anagnost) Placanio of Valrico, FL; grandchildren, Alyssa, Kayla (Timothy Connett), Maria (Josh Reeves), Anthony Shaw, Stosh and Rebbecca Patten; and nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call Friday, May 29 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Services will be Saturday, May 30 at 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home and 11:30 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, 5600 West Genesee St., Camillus, where a funeral Mass will be celebrated. Phyllis will be laid to rest in St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt.
