Philip Dardaris, 87, of Camillus, passed away Thursday, December 7, 2017 at home. Philip was born in 1930 to parents who came to this country from Albania over 100 years ago. He was the youngest of six children. He had three brothers, Nicholas, Spero and Theodore, and two sisters, Artemis and Chrysonthe. Philip and his siblings were the last of the first generation of Americans born in this country of immigrant parents.
Philip had many different jobs. His first was when he was still attending Central High School, working at the Hotel Syracuse as a busboy. He also worked at Rainbow Lounge and the Persian Terrace when needed. Later on, Philip went to work at Noah's Ark Auto Accessory Store on South Salina Street on the same block as the Chimes building across from Strand Theatre and Brown Jug (a little history here). The company changed hands a few times and later became National Auto. When they opened their store in Valley Plaza, he was the manager until they closed. Philip was employed with the West Genesee Central School District for the last 16 years of work.
Philip had many interests. He enjoyed traveling, was well read and enjoyed the arts. His real passion was collecting. Philip collected, and sometimes sold, many unusual things. His collecting included anything related to Lincoln, Syracuse postcards, paper goods, keys and unusual pieces of Onondaga pottery.
Philip leaves behind many nieces and nephews and their families, as well as other relatives and friends. He will be sorely missed.
Relatives and friends may call Tuesday, December 12 from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
Services will be Wednesday, December 13 at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Philip will be laid to rest in Woodlawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Onondaga Historical Association, 321 Montgomery St., Syracuse, NY 13202.
