Peter J. Wilkens, 55, of Camillus and a lifetime resident of the Syracuse area, passed away Tuesday at home. After graduating from West Genesee High School in 1987, he furthered his education, earning an associate's degree from Cayuga Community College and a bachelor's degree from SUNY Brockport. For over three decades, Peter worked as a security officer, dedicating himself to ensuring the safety and well-being of others. His unwavering commitment to his role was evident in his most recent position at Allied Universal Security Services, where he served with distinction and professionalism.
Outside of his career, Peter found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He had an ever-present love for music and his passion for sports was unmatched. As an avid fan of the Yankees and the Steelers, Peter’s enthusiasm was contagious, and he could always be counted on for lively discussions and spirited cheering during games. However, his greatest delight was found in the company of his family. Whether gathered for holiday celebrations or simply spending quality time together, Peter cherished every moment spent with his loved ones.
Peter was predeceased by his father, John.
Surviving are his mother, Ingeborg; sister, Heidi (Doug) Reneau; niece, Jessica; nephew, John; and several cousins.
In honor of Peter’s life, relatives and friends are invited to gather on Friday, January 26 from 10 a.m. to noon at Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. A funeral service to celebrate Peter’s life will follow at the funeral home.
