Peter E. Herron, 85, of Camillus, passed away peacefully on Wednesday at home, surrounded by his loving family. Born on September 13, 1938, in Auburn, he spent most of his life in the Syracuse area after graduating from CBA High School in 1956. Following graduation, Peter enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served his time on board the USS Intrepid aircraft carrier until 1959. He finished his working career at ProLinks Services where he retired from in 2005.
Those who knew Peter fondly recall his love for tending to his flower boxes and the cherished memories he created with his beloved wife, Gloria, during their summers at Brennan Beach. His fun spirit and camaraderie were evident when visiting his favorite watering holes like Park West and Asil’s Pub, where he was affectionately known as "neighbor."
Peter was predeceased by his wife, Gloria, in 2009; parents, Peter and Helen; brother, John; and sister, Sue Elliott.
Surviving are his children, Christine (Michael) Haynes of Camillus, Kevin (Liz) Herron of Atlanta, GA, Scott (Roberta) Herron of Syracuse, and Peter Greg (Carrie) Herron of Simsbury, CT; 12 grandchildren; brother, Bill (Marianne) Herron of Westvale; sister, Margaret (Larry) Byrnes of Fayetteville; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In honor of Peter’s life, relatives and friends are invited to gather on Monday, July 29, 2024, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at 12:30 p.m. in Holy Family Church, 127 Chapel Dr., Syracuse.
Peter will be laid to rest in Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Syracuse.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of CNY & of the Finger Lakes, 990 Seventh North St., Liverpool, NY 13088.
