Peter Capizzi

Peter Capizzi, 91, of Camillus, passed away Sunday at home. Born and raised in Oswego, he moved to Long Island in 1958 before settling in Camillus in 1996. Peter was a 1951 graduate of Oswego High School and received his master’s degree from New York University. A U.S. Army veteran, he was an industrial arts and driver education teacher for 32 years at Bellport High School before retiring in 1989. Following retirement, Peter and his wife, Marilyn, found great joy in traveling to Alaska, Hawaii, Italy, and Greece. He was a former communicant of St. Joseph’s Church. Peter enjoyed tending to his large vegetable garden, building and woodworking projects, and adored animals, particularly dogs. He was a kind and generous soul who, by example, taught his family to help others and love everyone, regardless of their skin color, religion, or nationality. Above all, he valued and loved spending time with his family, including the animal family members.

Peter was predeceased by his parents, Angelo and Mary; brothers, Fred and Joe; sisters, Kathleen Palermo and Mary Jane Whalen; and son-in-law, Robert Kuhlmann.

Surviving are his loving wife of 67years, the former Marilyn Barsuch; daughters, Beth Capizzi, Debbie Capizzi Kuhlmann, and Jeannine L. Capizzi; granddaughter, Kristen (Joe) Capizzi Kieffer; great-grandsons, Tyler Jacopelle and Aiden Alfaro-Capizzi; step-great-grandchildren, Madison, Adam, and Brooklyn Kieffer; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Relatives and friends may call Tuesday, March 18, 2025 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, 5600 W. Genesee St., Camillus. A funeral Mass will follow.
