Perry A. Tarquinio, 85, of Camillus, died Wednesday at home with his family and loyal dachshunds, Buddy and Abby, by his side. He was born and raised in Syracuse where he lived most of his life. Perry retreated to Camillus after retirement, buying a home with a pool after all his kids had moved out, which became an amazing gathering space for good times and family events. He and his identical twin brother, Philly, drove buses for Centro for over 30 years, often causing confusion and hilarity among very embarrassed regular riders.
A lifetime SU basketball and football fan, nothing could have made Perry happier than to see SU crush Georgetown during the last game he was able to watch. He also loved to watch the Yankees play on TV. Perry spent his free time hitting out of the rough on golf courses across the area or playing poker. He would pull up to a 4-card poker table at the casino, slowly and specifically revealing his cards, willing them into a winning hand. When not on the course or in the casino, Perry found time to take his wife to dinner (using casino points, but it’s the thought that counts!) or hanging out with his son-in-law, Tim, acting much like the two old Muppets in the balcony, commenting and laughing about life happening around them. Perry also enjoyed being the center of attention when family and friends were around, telling jokes (some even appropriate!) and stories from his past.
Perry was predeceased by his parents, Phillip and Marian.
He was a dedicated husband of 49 years to his wife, the former Norma Young; loving stepfather and father to Rhonda (Tim) Filkins (Law), Robert (Vicki) Law, Perry J. (Kathy) Tarquinio and Michael (Jill) Tarquinio; grumpy, but caring grandfather to Meagan, Alex, Gabby, Noah, Jordan, MJ, Miles, Aaron, and DJ; and brother to identical twin, Phillip “Philly” Tarquinio, and younger brother, Gene Tarquinio.
The family would like to thank Jennifer Castro, NP, who provided care, love, and empathy for Perry over the last few years. She listened to his jokes, dealt with his complaints and shot it straight when he needed to hear it.
