Paul M. Straka, 90, of Union Springs, formerly of Marietta, passed away peacefully on Wednesday at Auburn Community Hospital. Born and raised in Olyphant, PA, he settled in Syracuse in 1950. A U.S. Army National Guard veteran, Paul was employed with the Dept. of Transportation as a bridge construction supervisor for over 30 years. A member of St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society, he was also a member of the Skaneateles Rod & Gun Club and the Cayuga Cut-Ups Square Dance Club. An avid outdoorsman, Paul had a green thumb and a love for gardening. Above all, he cherished the time spent with his family and friends.
Paul was predeceased by his wife, Ruth, in 2005; sons, Michael and Peter; parents, John and Henrietta; and sister, Barbara.
Surviving are his fiancé, Elaine Day; daughter, Elaine Straka of Marietta; son, Paul E. of Marietta; grandchildren, Victoria, Kari, and Chris; and several nieces and nephews.
To honor Paul’s life, family and friends are invited to gather Sunday, April 7, 2024, from 1 to 4 p.m., with a Panakhyda service at 3 p.m., at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
A Divine Liturgy for the Deceased will be held Monday, April 8, 2024, at 9:30 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, Syracuse.
Paul will be laid to rest in St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Syracuse.
