Patricia Anne Burns

Patricia Anne Burns, 88, of Camillus, daughter of the late Michael Maley and Philomena Sampo Maley, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 1, after a short illness.

Patty was a graduate of the Franciscan Academy in Syracuse and Mercyhurst College in Erie PA, where she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry and a minor in theater.

Patty was especially proud of her traveling adventures. First, after graduation, to Europe for three months with two of her closest college friends. She then moved to San Francisco, CA where she resided for a few years working in research at one of the local hospitals.  She enjoyed skiing on the weekends and was thrilled to be able to attend the 1960 Winter Olympics in Squaw Valley.  

Patty eventually moved back to Syracuse where she met the love of her life, Francis Patrick Burns Jr. at a New Year’s Eve party.  Always romantic, they broke off two engagements before abruptly traveling to New York City to get married in St. Patrick’s Cathedral. They had a small, quaint wedding, having only 10 guests, including the wedding party. They were married for over 37 years.

Patty was famous among her family and many friends for always being so happy, optimistic, and overly upbeat.  She was forever grateful for friendships with her local golf and Mahjong gals, along with her crew at Kelly Greens in Ft. Myers, FL, which was her winter getaway for over 35 years.

Patty was predeceased by her parents; husband; brothers, Michael and Robert; and sister, Carol Charles.

Surviving are her children, Frank, Michael (Amy), and Suzanne; grandchildren, John and Patrick who are the light of her life; and several nieces and nephews.

A special thanks to Allie, Maggie, Michele, Tammy, Heather, and especially Gary for taking such great care of our mother at Syracuse Home at McHarrie Place in Baldwinsville. Their compassion, care, and professionalism were greatly appreciated.

Relatives and friends may call Thursday, December 29 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at St. Augustine’s Church, 7333 O’Brien Rd., Baldwinsville. A funeral Mass will follow at 12:30 p.m. in the church.
