Parker Ames Rhoads, 21, died as a result of a hit and run accident on Friday, August 12, 2016 in Pittsburgh, PA where he was attending college. He was born in Fort Worth, TX on March 24, 1995 to Lori and Chris Rhoads, and had one younger brother, Ian. He graduated from Liverpool High School in 2013 and was attending the University of Pittsburgh studying Computer Science. Those are the basic facts, true, but insufficient. Like two dimensional lines on an old paper map, they don't convey the depth or the wonder of this amazing son, grandson, brother and friend. Parker was born in Texas and died in Pittsburgh, but between, he lived in six different places fostering his relentlessly wandering spirit. So often being the new kid, he became adept at walking into a room of strangers and leaving with a new group of friends. Remembered by his friends as having a "swaggy walk" that you could spot a mile off, an infectious smile that rarely left his lips, and an ease that gave calm, Parker was always ready to listen or go on a hunt for new adventure. He was equally comfortable in the churches he grew up in, as well as the basement music scene of Pittsburgh that he loved. Parker lived bravely, loved fiercely, listened patiently and we - his family and friends - will never be the same. Calling hours will be Thursday, August 18 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the DeWitt Community Church, 3600 Erie Blvd East, DeWitt, NY. Services will be Friday, August 19 at 2 p.m. in the church. Holding true to Parker's love of being outside and walking in nature, the family welcomes donations in his name to be made to Glen Lake Camp & Retreat Center (glenlakecamp.com) or to Venture Outdoors.
