Camillus

It is with deep sadness and tremendous love that we announce the unexpected passing of Nicolas "Nick" Edward Sturm, 39, of Camillus, on Monday. Born on August 17, 1984, to Patty and Dale Sturm, he attended elementary school in the Valley before his family moved to their home on Kasson Road in 1992. As the eldest of five siblings, Nick assumed the role of trailblazer, often testing the limits of his mother's patience. In 2001, he graduated from Marcellus High School before venturing into the realm of the restaurant industry. Through unwavering determination, Nick opened The Pies Guys Pizzeria. Not only did he satisfy appetites but also offered comfort during the pandemic by steadfastly keeping the "open" sign illuminated.

An avid Syracuse University fan, Nick found joy in attending games at the Dome alongside his beloved family. He resided in Asheville, NC, for several years where he honed his skills in pit barbeque, though his heart ultimately led him back to Syracuse, where BBQ is always accompanied by salt potatoes. Nick was a cherished son, devoted friend, protective brother, and doting father to two beautiful daughters. His absence has left a wound in our souls, an ache that will never go away.

Nick’s heavenly welcoming crew includes his paternal grandfather, Edward "Dutch" Sturm III; maternal grandparents, John and Ursula Gorman; honorary Uncle Bob; and other friends who passed before him.

Nick’s family who must navigate through life without him are his princesses, Lily and Maggie; loving parents, Dale and Patty; paternal grandmother, Laura Sturm; brothers, Damian (Alex) and Patric; sisters, Chelsea, Rebecca, and Emilie Sturm; nieces and nephews, Max, Otto, Willow, Miles, and Mary Jane; “big sister”, Melissa (Jeff); close friends, Jereme and Nate; former wife, Ashlee Stonecipher; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who became family over the years.

To celebrate Nick’s life, relatives and friends are invited to gather on Sunday, March 24, 2024, from noon to 3 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. A funeral will follow at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the GoFundMe for his daughters: https://gofund.me/641f56ab
