Nicholina “Nickie” J. Collar, 82, of Camillus, passed away Friday, February 19, 2016 at Francis House. Born in Syracuse, she lived in Camillus since 1962. She was a graduate of Assumption Academy. Nickie retired from the Syracuse Newspapers in 1995 after 28 years. She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church and sang for many years with the "Voices of Faith Choir." Nickie was predeceased by her infant daughter, Marilyn Collar; parents, Joseph and Mary Cilurzo; and sister, Sister Mary Cilurzo. Surviving are her daughters, Joan Collar of Weedsport and Patricia (Steve) Fleet of Tennessee; son, James of Phoenix, NY; sister, Anne (Bill) FitzPatrick of Rochester; brothers, Vincent (Audrey) Cilurzo of Murrieta, CA and Joseph (Peg) Cilurzo of Franklin, TN; grandchildren, Alicia (Michael) Ernest, Joshua Hernandez, Jonathan Fleet and Sean Collar; great-granddaughter, Trinity Hernandez; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Relatives and friends may call Tuesday, February 23 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, February 24 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church. Nickie will be laid to rest in St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt.
