Neva Jean Huesgen Knight, 89, of Howlett Hill, passed away Monday, October 1, 2012 at Upstate University Hospital at Community General with her family by her side. Born in Oneonta on Friday, August 31, 1923, she was the daughter of Felix Huesgen and Elizabeth Briggs Huesgen. She was a lifetime resident of the Syracuse area. Neva was a graduate of Oneonta High School and attended Hartwick College in the first class of the U.S. Cadet Nursing Corps in 1943, supporting World War II war efforts. She was employed by Van Duyn Home & Hospital as a licensed practical nurse for 11 years, retiring in 1988. A former member of Howlett Hill Presbyterian Church, she also served as a deacon. She was a past matron of the Eastern Star and enjoyed knitting and crocheting. Neva was predeceased by her husband, Louis "Bussy" Knight in 1965; and sisters, Kathleen Huesgen in 1920 and Gladys Lare in 1991. Surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law, Kim and Daniel Legnetto of Marcellus and Judith and Ronald Ross of Azle, Texas; son, Louis Knight of Stafford Springs, Connecticut; grandchildren, Nathan (Stefani) Legnetto, Kyle (Julie) Legnetto, Alyssa (James) Puff, Ronald Ross, Craig Ross and Monika Knight; six great-grandchildren; and one nephew. Relatives and friends may call Thursday, October 4 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, Camillus. An Eastern Star service will follow at 7 p.m. Neva will be laid to rest at Howlett Hill Cemetery in Camillus on Friday, October 5 at 11:30 a.m. Contributions may be made to Meals On Wheels ECHO Inc., 4600 W.
