Mitch Slater

December 26, 1951 — August 9, 2020

Mitch Slater, 68, of Syracuse, passed away at home in the loving arms of his wife, Linda, after a one-year battle with cancer. Mitch grew up in Borodino and loved being a drummer. He relocated to Houma, LA in 1978 where he built bridges, worked in construction and learned the art of cabinet making. He returned home to his family in 1988 and joined the Midlakes Crew building cabinets for the boats. For the last 15 years Mitch worked at Digital Analysis where they valued his skill and craftsmanship and he considered them to be his work family. Mitch loved concerts, reading, plants, wine and spending time with the love of his life. He was famous for his award-winning Halloween costumes, funny t-shirts, humor and never knowing what was going to come out of his mouth.

Mitch was predeceased by his father, Carl, in 2006.

Surviving are his wife, Linda; mother, Vivian Hiley; stepmother, Susan Slater; siblings, Becky (Shum) Leubner, Gretchen Slater and Gregory Slater; stepchildren, Ian (Eléna) Rickert-Dellios, Tiffany (John) Rickert and Colin Rickert; grandson, John Christopher Higgins III; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

A celebration of Mitch’s life is planned for August 29 from noon to 3 p.m. If you would like to attend, please call or text (315) 378-4070 for location details. Plan to celebrate Mitch’s life together outside, weather-permitting. The family requests you wear a mask and bring a story to share.
