Mike Ivanyk Jr., 31, of Syracuse, passed away Tuesday, August 15, 2017. Born in Ukraine, he came to the US in 1997. A graduate of Westhill High School, Mike studied biological sciences at SEOC. He earned his credentials as a certified electrical technician and was employed at SPS Fire and Security. An avid outdoorsman, he loved fishing, kayaking, canoeing, camping and hiking. He especially loved the Adirondack Mountains, where he climbed several High Peaks and embraced the beauty and challenge of nature to the fullest. In addition to staying fit and running, he had a taste for the adventurous things in life such as mountain biking and skydiving. His infectious smile and personality brought joy to all of those around him. His good nature and sense of humor left a smile on the face of everyone he encountered. He was artistic and inquisitive with a fantastic mind for scientific and political discussion. Above all, he loved spending time with family and friends and was deeply cherished by all those who were lucky enough to have known him.
Surviving are his parents, Mykhailo and Vira; sisters, Olha and Nataliya Ivanyk and Mariya (Ed) Nolan; former brother-in-law, Viktor Volovyk; fiancé, Alexis Shwide and her parents David and Lina Shwide; nieces, Janet and Adriana; nephews, Viktor and Stephan; several cousins; and beloved dog, Neptune.
Relatives and friends may call Sunday, August 20 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Panakhyda service will be at 6 p.m.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, August 21 at 10 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, 207 Tompkins St., Syracuse. Mike will be laid to rest in St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Syracuse.
