Michael Don Colucy, 77, of Onondaga Hill, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday. Born in Oneida on July 27, 1940, he was the only child of Marian (Basher) and Donald Colucy. Mike and his family moved to Syracuse in 1950 and he graduated from St. John’s Catholic Academy, finishing second in his class. In 1962, Mike graduated from Le Moyne College with a bachelor’s degree in science with a major in chemistry.
Mike worked at the General Motors plant in Syracuse for 30 years. He started in the process engineering department and ended his career as the Operations Manager at the Inland Fisher Guide Plant. Mike chaired the plant’s United Way Drive, setting new records each year, and organized and chaired the annual GM Syracuse Salaried Reunion Luncheon for ten years.
Mike took pride in being selected for the US Marine Corps Officer’s Candidate School in Quantico, VA and being a member of Mensa International. His interests included being an avid Yankees fan, landscaping, billiards, golf and bridge. He also organized and enjoyed a neighborhood dinner group that continued for over 30 years. Mike and his wife loved to attend live vocal performances, Broadway shows and were members of the Syracuse Symphony Pops Series. They loved to travel, especially taking cruises all over the world.
Surviving are his loving wife of 55 years, the former Mary Ellen Kulba; daughters, Deborah Lynn Wolcott of Rochester Hills, MI and Barbara Lynn (Michael) Hebert of Wilmington, MA; grandchildren, Victoria, Rebecca and Samuel Wolcott VI and Danielle and Jenny Hebert; and stepsister, Audrey Echo Weir and her family of Texas.
Calling hours will be Thursday, June 7 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, June 8 at 10 a.m. in The Church of St. Michael & St. Peter, 4782 West Seneca Turnpike, Syracuse. Burial will be held at a later date.
