Michael A. Markinson, 88, of Fairmount, passed away Thursday, March 5, 2015 at Francis House. Born in Scranton, PA, he was a navy veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific Theatre. He was a recipient of the Pacific Theatre Ribbon, American Theatre Ribbon and Victory Medal. Michael moved to Syracuse with his family after the war. He was employed by John Morrell Meats. He was also a communicant of Holy Family Church and member of the Moose Club and Italian American Veterans Club. An avid golfer, he was a member of the Skyline Golf Course for many years. Michael was predeceased by his parents, Salvatore and Rose Markinson; and brothers, Phillip and Samuel. Surviving are his wife of 63 years, the former Gloria Sorrendino; son, Gary (Theresa) Markinson of Minoa; grandson, Michael J. Markinson of Syracuse; granddaughter, Trisha L. Markinson of Syracuse; sister, Connie Duprey of Rochester; and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call Wednesday, March 18 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 19 in Holy Family Church. Michael will be laid to rest in the Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
