Michael R. Neuner, 72, of Onondaga Hill, passed away Thursday at Crouse Hospital. Born in Buffalo, he found his home in Syracuse where he settled in 1972. A graduate of Syracuse University where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Design, Michael devoted 40 years of his life to Onondaga Community College, where he served as a Senior Development Specialist. His tireless efforts and contributions to the field of education have left an indelible mark on countless lives.
Michael was a cherished member of various organizations including the Sports Car Club of America, and the Midstate Miata Club, while also holding memberships in the Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society and the Leadership of Greater Syracuse Class of 1994. Serving as the past CNY representative and president of the Educational Technology Officers Association (EDTOA) of SUNY schools, he contributed significantly to his community.
With a deep love for nature and adventure, Michael enjoyed spending his free time engaging in activities such as hiking, traveling with his wife, Cathy, and indulging in slot car racing with his grandsons. His warm spirit and zest for life were evident in every endeavor he pursued. Those who had the privilege of knowing Michael will fondly recall his dedication to family and community. He leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
Michael was predeceased by his wife, Cathy, in 2017; parents, Eugene and Dorothy; sister, Joyce (Hull) Neuner; and brother, Mark Neuner.
Surviving are his son, Matthew (Amy) of Pompey; daughter, Christina (Sean) Boyle of Switzerland; grandchildren, Caleb, Luke, Brady, and Macklin Neuner and Seamus, Liam, and Eamonn Boyle; brothers, Richard (Carol) of Buffalo and Robert (Gabi) of Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.
To celebrate Michael’s life, relatives and friends are invited to gather Wednesday, May 1, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
In honor of Michael’s life, services will be on Thursday, May 2, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
Michael will be laid to rest in Onondaga Valley Cemetery, Syracuse.
