Maxine Genevieve DePalma

Maxine Genevieve DePalma, 96, of Syracuse, passed away Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at Van Duyn Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing. Born and raised in McConnellsville, she was formerly employed by K-Mart. She was involved with several ladies auxiliary posts including VFW #2893 and American Legion #1468. Maxine was predeceased by her husband, Pasquale DePalma, in 1975; daughter, Kathleen Szewczyk; and brother, Merton J. Scales. Surviving are her daughter, Patty (John) Mullally of Syracuse; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Scales of Aurora, CO; grandchildren, Christopher Reome of Syracuse, Christina Stepka of Liverpool and Shanna Szewczyk of Camillus; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be private. Private burial will be in Assumption Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Bethesda Naval Hospital, Oncology Division in memory of Kathleen Szewczyk, 8901 Wisconsin Ave., Bethesda, MD 20889.
