Maurice Patrick Downey Jr.

Maurice P. Downey, Jr., 67, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, after a long illness. Maurice was an honor graduate of Bishop Ludden High School and attended SUNY Plattsburgh. He served in the U.S. Navy for six years on the USS Enterprise. He worked for many years at Cicero-North Syracuse School District and at NYS Thruway Authority. Maurice will be remembered for his love of music (especially Jackson Browne), trivia expertise, sharp sense of humor, and affection for his family. 

Maurice was predeceased by his parents, Maurice P. Sr. and Jeanne (Dowling) Downey; partner, Michelle Tamez; and sister, Sister James Therese Downey, OSF.

Surviving are his sons, Matthew, Daniel (Sara), and David (Ashley); daughter, Bridget Downey; seven grandchildren; siblings, Mary (Clete) Gualtieri, Ann (Ken) Rakowski, Grace (Brian) Davin, John (Sandy), Joseph (Casey), Jeanne (Jeff) Bradley, Charles (Claire), and Patricia (Michael) Palladino; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Relatives and friends may call Wednesday, September 14 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, September 15 at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church.

Maurice will be laid to rest in the Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Syracuse.
