Maureen Catherine Needham

Solvay

Maureen (Solamon) Needham, 86, of Solvaypassed away peacefully on Monday at Auburn Community Hospital. A lifetime resident of the Syracuse area, she was a graduate of Solvay High School. Maureen's work as a claims representative for the Social Security Administration showcased her commitment to public service, making a difference in the lives of many individuals. She was a pillar of her community, actively involved in various organizations, such as the Solvay-Geddes Senior Citizens Group, League of Women Voters, and the Solvay Women's Bowling League. Maureen also selflessly dedicated her time to volunteering at the St. Charles Church rectory and food pantry. She found joy in participating in the "Card Players at Copper Top" group and taking trips to the casino. Most of all, Maureen always cherished moments spent with her family and attending her grandchildren's events. Her legacy of love and compassion will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to be touched by her presence.

Maureen was predeceased by her parents, Robert and Elsie Needham. 

Surviving are her son, Michael (Kristyn) Solamon of Camillus; daughters, Maureen (Carl) Mahar of Parish and Dawnmarie Solamon of Lakeland; grandchildren, Michael-Paul (Lindsey), Brian (Kate), Andrew, Josh (Jenn), CJ (Meaghan), Jason, Richard, and Samantha; great-grandchildren, Kinsley, Lilly, Annalynn, Ollie, Paislee, Logan, and Caylee; brother, Michael Needham of Santa Barbara, CA; sisters, Roberta Wells of Camillus and Kathy (Bobby) Anthony of Weeki Wachee, FL; and many nieces and nephews. 

To celebrate Maureen’s life, relatives and friends are invited to gather on Thursday, April 18, 2024, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. A funeral service will follow at the funeral home. 

As a testament to medical education, Maureen chose to donate her body to SUNY Upstate's Anatomical Gift Program.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the 2024 Cancer Center Annual Fund, The Upstate Foundation, Inc., 750 E. Adams St., Syracuse, NY 13210.
