Mary Ellen Ungerer, 81, of Camillus, passed away Saturday at home surrounded by her loving family. Born and raised in Olean, she settled in the Syracuse area where she was employed as a teacher’s aide and library aide at West Genesee High School. Mary Ellen received a business certificate from Bryant & Stratton College. An avid reader, she also enjoyed knitting and puzzles. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family, especially watching her grandchildren participate in their multitude of activities.
Mary Ellen was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Richard; and parents, Thaddeus and Marion Pachla.
Surviving are her son, Michael (Hillary); daughters, Tammy (Lawrence) Gilbert, Tara (Halsey) Myles and Trista (Christopher) Channels; grandchildren, Madison, Harley, Delaney, Kenzie, Zachary, Etta, Frieda, Roger and Henry; brothers, Thomas (Diane) and Stephen (Kathy) Pachla; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends may call Friday, September 1 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, September 2 at 10 a.m. in the funeral home.
Mary Ellen will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery, DeWitt.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of CNY & Hospice of the Finger Lakes, 990 Seventh North St., Liverpool, NY 13088.
