Mary Smith Barnes

February 24, 1922 — July 28, 2018

Mary Smith Barnes, 96, formerly of Fairmount, passed away Saturday, July 28, 2018 in Andover, New Jersey. A lifetime resident of the Syracuse area, she graduated from St. Lucy's High School.

Mary retired in 1982 after over 20 years with Sears Credit Department. A communicant of Holy Family Church, she was formerly a communicant of Most Holy Rosary. She was a member of the Mother's Club, Altar & Rosary Society and the Vincent House.

Mary enjoyed playing bridge and was an avid Yankee and SU basketball fan, but above all all loved spending time with her family.

Mary was predeceased by her first husband, Donald Smith; second husband, John “Jack” Barnes; and brother, Patrick Howley.

Surviving are her son, Donald (Mary) Smith of San Antonio, FL; daughters, Cindy Dunn of Sparta, NJ, Maureen (Paul) Kardos of Rockaway, NJ, Mary (Jim) Robbins of Brockport and Mary Janet (Jeff) Crofts of Leesburg, FL; grandchildren, Sean, Seth and Matthew Dunn, Don, Derrick, David and Michelle Kardos, Carolyn and Zane (Krista) Robbins, Jamie (Billy) Winters, and Daniel, Andrew and Alyssa Crofts; four great-grandchildren; and stepsons, John Jr., Thomas and Michael Barnes.

There will be no calling hours.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, August 2 at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church. Mary will be laid to rest in St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Holy Family Church, 127 Chapel Dr., Syracuse, NY 13219.
