Mary Patricia Stamatel

Mary Patricia Stamatel, 84, of Camillus, known to her friends as Pat, passed away at home on Wednesday, June 16, 2010 after a long illness. Born in Arlington, Massachusetts on Tuesday, December 29, 1925, she was the daughter of Paul B. Fraser and Anna Tobin Fraser. She was the devoted wife of Henry S. Stamatel for 56 years. She had lived in Camillus since 1971. Mrs. Stamatel was a member of the Onondaga Weavers Guild and was accomplished at many needle arts, including quilting, weaving, upholstery, knitting, needlepoint and sewing. She also worked for the federal government before retiring in 1987. She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church. She also worked for the federal government before retiring in 1987. Mrs. Stamatel enjoyed many outdoor activities and happily slept on the ground for several weeks every summer while she and her family climbed mountains, paddled rivers and lakes, and biked towpaths and rail trails in the United States and Canada. She was also a long standing bridge player and a loyal spectator at the many sporting events of her children. "My mother had a wonderful vocabulary which she could use to get laughs and, sometimes, to make a point," said her daughter Mary Graham. "All our friends enjoyed her colorful language and engaging mind." Pat was the mother of five children, Thomas (and Tracey) Stamatel of Glens Falls, New York, Stanley (and Helen Clayton) Stamatel of Plainville, Massachusetts, Mary (and Mark) Graham of Hyattsville, Maryland, Elizabeth (and Ray) Taylor of Cape Elizabeth, Maine, and Lawrence (and Viola Fitzgerald) Stamatel of Niles, New York. She also has five grandsons; one granddaughter; one sister, Barbara Ann Dorrico of Kent, Connecticut and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Stamatel was predeceased by her father, Paul Fraser; her mother Ann Fraser; her sister Joan Parowski; her brother Ben Fraser: and her niece, Megan Fraser. Relatives and friends may call Friday, June 18 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 19 in St. Joseph’s Church. Pat will be laid to rest in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Marcellus. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 6725 Lyons St., P.O. Box 7, East Syracuse, NY 13057.
