Mary Jane “Mimi” Migon, 92, of Camillus, passed away on Thursday at home, with her loving family by her side. She was a strong, resilient woman, who overcame many of life’s challenges with deep faith.
Mimi was born and raised on the West Side of Syracuse and graduated from St. Patrick’s High School. She later settled in Camillus, where she and her husband, Chet, raised their family.
Throughout her life, Mimi was an active member of her community. She was involved in the Knights of Columbus #6282 Women’s Auxiliary, Holy Family Church Altar & Rosary Society, volunteered with the parish funeral luncheon committee, and worked many years as a volunteer for the Franciscan Villa gift shop. Professionally, she worked for several years in the office at Witherill’s Department Store in Camillus and also generously gave her time as a home health aide.
Of all her roles, one of her favorites was working as the ticket lady at the ice cream stand in the Dairy Building at the New York State Fair—a job she truly loved.
A longtime member of Westvale Golf and Country Club, Mimi enjoyed golfing, reading, dancing, and playing cards. She was also fortunate to spend winters in Largo, FL, with Chet, a time she deeply cherished.
In her later years, her Wednesday lunches with her dear friends—whom she affectionately called “the girls”—became the highlight of her week, bringing her endless joy.
Above all, Mimi cherished her children and their families. She was endlessly proud of their accomplishments and the kind, thoughtful lives they led.
Mimi was predeceased by her husband, the love of her life for 62 years, Chester “Chet”; parents, Carl and Margaret (O’Hara) Burkhardt; son, Gerald Migon; grandson, Nicholas J. Migon; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Surviving are her children, Susan Migon, Timothy (Veronica) Migon, Lawrence (Theresa Pelletier) Migon, Linda Ryan, Patricia (Michael) Hardenburgh, and Mary Kay (Keith) Wilkie; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In honoring Mimi’s wishes, there will be no calling hours.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church, 127 Chapel Dr., Syracuse.
Mimi will be laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Holy Family Church food pantry, 127 Chapel Dr., Syracuse, N.Y. 13219.
