Mary Margaret Westcott

Mary M. Westcott, 94, of Taunton, passed away Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at Van Duyn Home & Hospital. Born in Syracuse on Wednesday, September 9, 1914, she was the daughter of William J. Moran and Josephine Manning Moran. She graduated from Cathedral High School. Mary lived some of her early years in St. Vincent’s Orphanage. She lived in Syracuse until moving to Taunton in 1972. Mary was a former communicant of St. Ann's Church. An avid reader, she also loved to travel. She especially loved the ocean at Nauset Beach on Cape Cod where she vacationed for the last 40 years. For the past 20 years, she enjoyed day trips with family and friends around New York State. She will be remembered as a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. Mary was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Vernon, in 1996; brother, John Moran; and nephew, Robert Havens. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Jeanne and Thomas Dugan of Camillus; grandsons, Jeffrey Dugan of Syracuse and Brian Dugan of Camillus; niece, Julie Havens Rittmeyer of Savannah, Georgia and several great-nieces and great-nephews. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 31, 2009 at Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus and at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church where a funeral Mass will be celebrated. Relatives and friends may call Thursday, July 30, 2009 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Mary will be laid to rest in Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
