Mary Margaret Lynch, 63, of Syracuse, passed away Thursday, October 22, 2015 at Upstate University Hospital at Community Campus after a heroic six-year battle with ALS. Born in Hornell, she lived in Camillus for over 25 years. She was a graduate of Alfred University and Elmira College. Mary taught math and substituted with the West Genesee Central School District. She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she loved spending time with her family and was an avid SU fan, as well as a Fox News devotee. Mary was predeceased by her mother, Marilyn Sheedy. Surviving are her husband of 39 years, Gregory; daughters, Jamie (Todd) Klaben of Camillus and Kristen (Bryon) Mirto of Norwalk, CT; son, Andrew (Lindsey) of Marlton, NJ; father, Thomas (Joanne) Sheedy of Smith Mountain Lake, VA; sisters and brothers, Kathleen (Barry) VandenBergh of Wynantskill, Susan (Mark) Waligora of Hillsboro, NC, Thomas (Michele) Sheedy of Billings, MT, Patricia Sheedy of Roanoke, VA, and John (Mickie) Sheedy of Concord, NC; grandchildren, Kyle, Ryan and Kaitlyn Klaben and Cooper and Finnegan Lynch; and many nieces and nephews. A special thank you to the following that made Mary's last six years possible: Dr. Jeremy Shefner, who diagnosed and initially cared for her; Dr. Vincent Scialdone and Dr. Iona Amzuta who graciously agreed to provide essential oversight to her home care; staff and management of Bridgewater Center for rehab; staff and management of Community General Hospital (now known as Upstate University Hospital at Community Campus) for their "gold standard" of care on those occasions when Mary's needs were beyond the scope of our very capable private nurses, Toni Vella, Karen Baker, Brian Thomas, Maggie Heitmann, Tareya Johnston, Carl Matthew and Margaret Kaufman, who provided around-the-clock care; Visiting Nurses Assoc., who was instrumental in getting Mary home; Koldin Law Center, who helped us navigate through Medicaid requirements; Department of Social Services; Franciscan Health Care; and respiratory therapist, Tim Curtis. Lastly, our extended family and friends who provided constant support throughout. Relatives and friends may call Thursday, October 29 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, October 30 at 11:30 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church. Mary will be laid to rest in Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
