Mary Malenczuk, 97, of Onondaga Hill, passed away Monday, August 20, 2012 at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Born in Woonsocket, Rhode Island on Tuesday, November 10, 1914, she was the daughter of Nicolas Wecal and Rose Bukata Wecal. She graduated from Woonsocket High School and worked in the local textile mills. After marrying, Mary and her family relocated to Buffalo and, following her husband’s retirement from G.M., moved to Syracuse to be closer to and more involved with their grandchildren. Mary was very active in and a communicant of St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church. She was an avid Mets fan and loved crossword puzzles. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mary was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, John Malenczuk; and brothers, Steve and Walter Wecal. Surviving are her daughter, Jeanne DeRose of Onondaga Hill; brother, Eugene Wecal of Woonsocket, Rhode Island; grandsons, Joseph (Danyelle) DeRose of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Jason (Cynthia) DeRose of Schenectady; and great-grandchildren, Jaegur, Gabriella and Isabella. Relatives and friends may call Thursday, August 23 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus with Panakhyda service at 6 p.m. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, August 24 at the funeral home and at 11 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church where Very Rev. Archpriest Volodmyr Piso will celebrate a Divine Liturgy for the Deceased. Mary will be laid to rest in St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery.
