Mary Jasiel, 88, of Syracuse, passed away Saturday, September 12, 2009 at St. Camillus Health & Rehabilitation Center. Born in Syracuse on Saturday, August 20, 1921, she was the daughter of Frank Michaels and Mary Krasula Michaels. A lifetime resident of Syracuse, she graduated from Blodgett Vocational High School. Retiring in 1986, Mary was employed 10 years with Carrier Corp. She was previously employed by the University Hospital of the Good Shepherd, A.H. Pond Co. and operated the Blarney Stone Inn with her late husband, Louis. Mary was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church. She formerly sang in the choir and was a member of the Ukrainian Girls' Auxiliary. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Louis, who died on December 10, 1974; brothers, John and Donald; and sister, Irene Michaels. Surviving are her sisters, Elizabeth Jarema of Florida and Theresa Kalenak of Syracuse; brothers, David and Theodore Michaels both of Syracuse; several nieces and nephews; two great-nieces and several great-nephews. A Divine Liturgy for the Deceased will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 16, 2009 in St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church. A panakhyda service will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Mary will be laid to rest in St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
